Red Jacket

Built by George Thomas at Rockland, Maine, USA 1853-54, she was the most famous of two sister ships. The other was the Blue Jacket.

The Red Jacket was 2000 tons and 260 ft in length, with a breadth of 44ft

In 1860, she graced Auckland harbour with her presence - for a figurehead she carried the full length representation of the Indian Chief for whom she had been named. She made many a swift passage to Melbourne, and on her last voyage ran onto Auckland in seven days arriving on the 17th of May 1860.
